KARACHI: Govt delaying Language Act enforcement: Khuhro
KARACHI, Nov 22: Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmad Khuhro on Tuesday accused government of using ‘delaying tactics’ in the implementation of the Sindhi Language Act-1972 in totality on the pretext of non-availability of teachers, books, classrooms, buildings, etc.
All notifications in this regard had been withdrawn and they were assuring people that the government was committed to implement the Act. “The factual position is that they want to bury the issue on these pretexts,” Mr Khuhro told reporters after Tuesday’s assembly session.
He criticized the treasury benches for not allowing the opposition to present a resolution asking the government to take steps for Sindhi language teaching in Class XI and XII, and alleged that the government was not serious in this regard.
“I will try once again to move a resolution out of turn in this regard, although I don’t think the treasury will allow me to do so through relaxation of rules,” he observed. Mr. Khuhro said he had submitted an adjournment motion in this regard with the assembly secretariat, but owing to the delayed start of the session and its adjournment without taking up any serious matter, Makhdoom Jamiluz Zaman was compelled to move the resolution, which was turned down by the treasury benches.
He also accused treasury members of turning up late at the session and failing in fulfilling their responsibilities honestly. “They are just wasting the time and money of the nation as no serious issue is coming under discussion on the floor of the house, he remarked.—PPI
