Three injured in blast
FAISALABAD, Nov 21: Three spectators sustained injuries when the gas-cylinder in a tuck-shop exploded with a big bang inside the Iqbal Stadium during the second Test between Pakistan and England on Monday.
Reports said a tuck-shop was set up near Gate No 5 to sell soft-drinks and eatables. The gas-cylinder installed in the fresh soft-drink machine exploded with a big bang injuring three persons including vendor, Nawaz.
A number of youngsters sustained minor injuries due to stampede in the said enclosure. The police teams immediately combed the area and tackled the situation.
District Police Officer Mohammad Amin Wain and District Coordination Officer Athar Hussain Sial, along with other police and administrative officials briefed the team members and England security officials about the explosion.
Meanwhile, a sub-inspector was suspended for dereliction of duties at the stadium.
Reports said on Sunday, a spectator scaled the steel-fences and jumped into the grounds when Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf completed his half-century. The spectator succeeded in shaking hands with the batsman.
The police officials took the incident seriously and observed it a security breach.
The sub-inspector Sheikh Muneeb deputed near Gate No 2 from where the spectator entered into the grounds has been suspended from service by the DIG Police.
