KARACHI: Qazi calls for rushing special shelters to quake-hit areas
KARACHI, Nov 21: MMA President and Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmed has underscored the urgent need for dispatching wooden and fibre shelters, got manufactured by the Al-Khidmat Welfare Society, to quake-affected areas.
He was speaking at the JI office, Idara Noor-i-Haq, where models of two different types of such shelters were put on display.
He was told that a one-room wooden shelter would cost Rs10,000 whereas a similar shelter made with fibre would cost Rs28,000. The cost of a two-room fibre shelter would come to Rs70,000, he noted.
Qazi Hussain was informed that the shelters had been built keeping in view the harsh winters of northern areas and, thus, were suitable for the victim families.
Later, talking to newsmen on the occasion of the dispatch of 27th relief consignment by the Al-Khidmat from the Idara, he lauded the spirit and contribution of Karachiites with regard to the relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The JI Karachi Amir, Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, presented a cheque of Rs5 million to Qazi Hussain Ahmed on behalf of the Al-Khidmat Welfare Society towards the relief activities.
The MMA chief noted that the Society had allocated Rs60,000 each for quake-hit families for reconstruction and rehabilitation purposes. MNA Mohammad Hussain Mehanti, MPA Nasrullah Shaji and other JI leaders were present.—PPI
