KARACHI, Nov 21: Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmad Khuhro on Monday said that the opposition was considering to a hold a benefit cricket match between the treasury and opposition members of the house to raise money for victims of October 8 earthquake.
Addressing a press conference in his chamber after the assembly session, he said PPP MPAs had already donated their one-month salaries.
Regarding the issue he had raised in the assembly, Mr Khuhro said the opposition wanted to know that why almost 200 lower-grade police officers — 129 ASIs and 68 Sis — majority of them Sindhi-speaking, had been transferred from Hyderabad to rural areas of the province on October 29.
He said transfer of such a large number of police officers in a single day had created doubts and could be considered a politically motivated move.
“If it was an administrative measure, than it is highly unwise as such a large number of officials is never transferred in a single day. And if there is some other reason, the home minister must explain the same to people and their elected representatives,” he stressed.
“We also want to know whether it is being done on the directives of General Musharraf, who openly claims that there was a lack of competent people in the Sindhi-speaking population of Sindh to be given higher administrative posts,” he stated.
Commenting on the current session of the Sindh Assembly, he said commencement of proceedings hit delay due to the late arrival of treasury members. He complained that the speaker was not allowing opposition to speak on points of order, nor was he allowing them to present motions and resolutions.
