Banzine tipped to win feature event

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Nov 19: Three-year-old bay English colt, Banzine, looks ideally placed in the handicap to lift the feature event, Zaheer-ud-Din Muhammad Babar Cup to be gone over 1600m during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

He is contesting in the sixth race, a class II and III handicap race, meant exclusively for English thoroughbreds, which is regarded as the fastest growing equine event in Pakistan at present.

With the participation of a dozen English thoroughbreds the cup named after Mogul Emperor Zaheer-ud-Din Babar is one of the prestigious events.

According to track work reports, the colt from English sire Barathea out-of-Banque Privec, Banzine, looks in fine trim and if he runs accordingly, he should win the cup on debut.

The colt was to make his first appearance on Oct 2 last but was withdrawn at the last moment.

Owned by Syed Tasweer Hussain Shah, the Suhail Aziz trained colt will be ridden by stable jockey.

The mare Hidden Cove and the filly Dixie Queen should be his challengers.

The supporting and the fifth event, the Park View Society Cup to be contested over 1600 metres is a match between two Pakistani thoroughbreds.

The filly Height Of Happiness trained by Haji Ghulam Sarwar is to take on colt Prince Of Gujrat in a mouth-watering rupees 150,000 cup event.

This is a long-awaited duel that has aroused a great interest of connoisseurs of sport eager to watch it.

The second supporting event, the Tariq Bin Zayad Cup, a class IV division I handicap race over 1400 metres has a dozen colts and fillies.

Of them two three-year-old colts Thriller and Zoro and a filly Trace Hit, who are prominent on form will be battling for supremacy.

All three have shown tremendous promise in the making of classic animals. Thrill, with a bag of three wins in a row seems to be public fancy.

However, on classification Zoro looks equally on good chance and Trace Hit unlikely to be ignored.

It should be a good contest between three.

This will be the fourth race of the day. The opener looks to be a hit and run by three-year-old colt Scooby owned by Mian Mahir Ahmad, who is having a good season. Mera Chandiwala, Murad Love, King Sound and Ministry will be fighting for less remunerative positions.

Three-year-old filly Poly Dunit, who was backed by connections to the last penny in her previous outing should be going all out to make it two in a row. Swing, Rough Tough and Run And Win should make the frame in the second race.

Four-year-old colt, Legend trained by Haji Ghulam Sarwar looks set to win the third race. He will be followed by Storm Warning and Puma The great.

May May, Dancing Star, My Shanga and Top Figure are the pick of the 14-strong field for the seventh race. They should fight it out.

Remember You, Lovely Diana and Mohabtain are good in the eighth and last race. Any of them having the services of a good rider would be prevailing over others.

The first race will be held at 12 noon.
