Horse-racing: Victory Road shoud land Eclipse Stake Cup

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Nov 19: Victory Road, a three-year-old filly, who has just arrived from Lahore, is fancied to lift the Eclipse Stake Cup when the Winter Gymkhana race meeting takes place at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Owned by M. Shahrukh and trained by S. Ehtisham, the filly will make her maiden appearance at the KRC in the seven furlongs ninth race which has seven contestants in fray.

Born to Pakistani sire Reply and English mare Coxwain, she has performed outstandingly at Lahore in the recent past before coming to the city. The filly, however, has to overcome Secret Conquest and Super Conqueror in accomplishing the task. Savabeel, who made it two in a row in the last meeting, is also among the participants.

Two-year-old colt, Moon Raker, is poised to clinch the Golden Sleeper Stake Cup which will be contested in the seventh race. He is likely to be chased by two-year-old colt Fast Burner and two-year-old filly Safari Queen.

A card of ten races including two cups has been drawn for the day with the first race starting at 12.00 noon.

Another salient feature of the day will be the fifth race going over a sprinting distance of ten furlongs. Four-year-old colt, King Of Sanghar, is tipped to dominate the event which has the smallest field of five runners. He should be followed by Al Faris and Fantastic Face.

Royal Lancer, a seven-year-old bay horse should win the opening event. Desperado and Piyari Mehbooba should settle for places.

Three-year-old chestnut, King Of Kings, who was beaten to second place by Fantastic Face in the Nov 9 meeting, is likely to make amends in the second race.

Ouija Board, a four-year-old filly, and three-year-old colt, Silent Angel, are poised to run away with the honours in the third and fourth races.
