ISLAMABAD, Nov 19: The quake survivors after getting compensation from the Azad Kashmir government are returning to the federal capital to regain accommodation in the tented villages they had left a few days ago to get financial aid in their native areas.

A week ago, the affected people accommodated in the capital’s tented villages were directed by the capital administration to vacate the camps and return to their areas to get compensation for their losses.

On this assurance, thousands of affected people went back. According to administrations of various tented villages, though quake survivors were swiftly returning to their areas, they were also coming back at the same pace after claiming financial aid, making it difficult to accommodate them at the camps yet again.

The camp authorities said the departing families had promised that they would not come back and resettle themselves in their native areas. This double game on the part of some of these affected persons would not do them any good and make people lose confidence in them, a relief worker told Dawn on Saturday.

When contacted, officials of AJK administration posted in Islamabad to assist affected people in returning, said distribution of compensation in quake-hit areas was in full swing, claiming that not even a single deserving person would be missed out.

They said in Rawlakot, Rs63 billion had been distributed by an army official in the presence of the district administration officials.

However, they admitted that some unscrupulous persons after getting compensation were returning to Islamabad instead of rebuilding their houses with the amount they had received for the purpose.

The officials also said some people were claiming double compensation by showing two different identity cards.

They, however, asserted that they would keep a check on such people, adding that those people who had received compensation would not be accommodated in the federal capital.
