Survivors encash Rs1.5bn cheques

ABBOTTABAD, Nov 18: Compensation cheques of more than Rs1.5 billion given to survivors of last month’s earthquake have been encashed at the Bank of Khyber’s branches in Abbottabad and Mansehra. Managers of the branches, Alam Zeb Khan and Jamil Khan, said at a press briefing here on Friday that special counters had been established for the earthquake survivors and more than 10,000 new accounts had been opened. They said the procedure for opening accounts had been simplified for the victims.

They said both the bank branches were operating till late in the night to guide and assist the affected people.

RELIEF FUND: The Private Schools’ Association of Abbottabad has established a relief fund to provide free education, books and study material to students affected by the October 8 earthquake.

The association decided in its meeting here to set up the fund with an initial amount of Rs60,000.

It also decided to help the families of teachers of private schools in Hazara region who died in the earthquake.
