QUETTA, Nov 18: A faction of the Baloch Students Organization (BSO) has accused the government of hatching a plot to build a garrison in Awaran district in what it said was “an attempt to crush a movement against exploitation of Baloch resources”.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Dad Shah Baloch, zonal president of BSO-Aman, said that a plot of 800 acres had been allotted in the name of a veterinary hospital but from the huge boundary walls encircling the property it seemed that a fort and not a hospital was planned.
Mr Baloch said the cantonment was being established in the middle of Behzad and Terteeg Highway connecting Awaran and Gwadar. According to him, the location has been chosen for its geo-political significance.
Mr Baloch criticized the anti-Baloch policies of the rulers and pledged that Baloch people would not allow “exploiters to loot the resources of the motherland”.
The BSO leader called upon the government to abandon plans of “usurpation of Baloch resources” and warned that if the interests of the local population were not looked after the Baloch people would use all means possible to protect their rights and resources.
SCHOOL UPGRADATION PLAN: Members of opposition as well as treasury benches in the Balochistan Assembly have criticized upgradation of schools in selected areas in the province and said that it is aimed at promoting the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal.
During the question hour on Friday, Provincial Education Minister Maulana Abdul Wahid Siddiq came under fire when members of both the benches rejected the policy on upgradation of primary and middle schools. They said that selection of particular areas for the school upgradation programme was aimed at strengthening MMA constituencies, instead of giving priority to deserving areas.
Opposition members Jan Mohammad Buledi, Rehmat Ali Baloch, Majid Khan Achakzai, Sardar Azam Khan Musakhel and Akbar Mengal alleged that the schools were upgraded in Qila Saifullah and Pishin only and other backward districts were ignored.
Ministers Sher Jan Baloch, Nasreen Khetran and Habibur Rehman Mohammadhasni with MPAs Jaffar Khan Mandokhel and Rubina Irfan also criticized the policy which was defended by the MMA ministers.
Earlier, parliamentary leader of the Balochistan National Party (Mengal) Akbar Mengal staged a token walkout from the house in protest against the statement made by federal minister Sher Afgan in the Senate against the Balochistan people.
Deputy speaker Mohammad Aslam Bhootani, who presided over the session, disposed off People’s Party Parliamentarians’ Shafiq Ahmed’s privilege motion pertaining to installation of tubewells in Quetta following an assurance by a minister.
