SHEIKHUPURA, Nov 17: Nankana Sahib district police officer and Sangla Hill DSP were suspended on Thursday on Punjab chief minister’s orders for poor administration and dereliction of duty. DPO Tahir Alam Khan and DSP Asghar Dogar had allegedly failed to maintain law and order in Sangla Hill a few days back, when some churches and houses of Christians were torched by a mob in the wake of an alleged incident of desecration of the Holy Quran.

Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi, after arriving at Sangla Hill, went straight to the Quran Mahal, the place where the alleged desecration incident had occurred.

Later, he visited the churches which were ransacked by the mob and were later set ablaze.

The chief minister said on the occasion the government was responsible for the protection of the life and property of every citizen, including those belonging to the minority communities.

He said the Holy Prophet (PBUH) preached respect for all and the country’s founder, Quaid-i-Azam, had pledged equal rights for the minorities.
