KARACHI: 46 Metro, UTS buses challaned for violations

KARACHI, Nov. 17: The vigilance committee, comprising transport, city government and traffic police officials, challaned 46 UTS and metro buses on the 4th day of their drive against buses overcharging passengers, carrying male passengers in female compartments, careless driving and other traffic violations.

The committee confiscated one bus while drivers of 10 buses were let off after warning.

EDO Transport Mohammed Athar has directed the traffic police officer Waseem Baig of the vigilance committee and DDO Mohammed Iqbal Siddiqi to carry out raids on buses plying under Karachi Public Transport Society besides Urban Transport Scheme.

He asked the committee to intensify its raids and challan the violators without any discrimination to redress public complaints against them.

The EDO directed that legal action should be taken against Metro and UTS buses overcharging the passenger and committing other irregularities.

The citizens were appealed to register their complaints with the city government’s transport department.—APP
