LARKANA, Nov 16: Admi-tting a petition, Justice Maqbool Baqar of the Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit bench, on Tuesday issued notices to 36 policemen, including the Qambar-Shahdadkot district police officer, town police officer and Shahdadkot SHO to appear on November 17 before the court.
Advocate Ayaz Soomro on behalf of Yasmin Khoso, Rani Magsi, Shama Magsi and Tarique Magsi in a constitutional petition alleged that following the murder of Latif Chandio, the bodyguard of Qambar Taluka Nazim Sardar Khan Chandio, police from Shahdadkot, Qubo Saeed Khan, Mirokhan and Qambar on November 3, violating the sanctity of their houses and after beating the petitioners arrested them.
They kept them for 12 hours in illegal detention at the Shahdadkot police station and robbed gold ornaments, house hold articles — television, wrist watches, camera and cash Rs100,000 cash from them.
The petitioner said that police had entered their houses without any search warrant and committed the robbery.
The petitioner prayed for registeration of an FIR against the respondents.
DEVELOPMENT PLANS: The Sindh government has allocated an amount of Rs14.500 million for improvement and extension of 11 development schemes of urban water supply, drainage and the construction, improvement of internal cemented blocks and drains in urban areas of the Qambar-Shahdadkot district.
A source in the development wing of the district government Qambar-Shahdadkot told Dawn on Tuesday that the huge amount had been earmarked under the annual development programme 2005-06.
According to the detail an amount of Rs8 million was allocated for improvement and extension of drainage system in Qambar, Warah, Nasirababd and Mirokhan towns of the new district.
Similarly, an amount of Rs6.5 million was allocated for the construction, improvement of internal streets, drains in different localities in the district where the nucleus of undertaking development work was made a union council, the source said.
LCCI: The Larkana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), has demanded an end to old disputes in Larkana district which had been disturbing peace since long.
Talking to this correspondent on Tuesday, the president of the chamber, Mr Mohammad Azam Shaikh, said that disputes existed among Syed-Mirbahar, Mirbahar-Jatoi, Abra-Abra, Umrani-Narijo, Gaad-Narijo, Gaad-Bhutto, Sethar-Bhutto disputes had been a permanent source of unrest in the district. These disputes, generated out of petty issue, had become serious claiming many precious lives.
It also disturbed peace in the affected areas. It was not only disturbing the social life but also had cast negative impact on educational and trade activities in the district, he said.
DISMISSED: The district police officer dismissed 18 policemen including one assistant sub-inspector from service on the charges of long absence from duty and negligence in duty.
Those dismissed included — ASI Malik Ghulam Shabir, Mohammed Ismael, Aamir, Qurban, Ali Gohar and Khadim Hussain.
The DPO slashed services of six policemen for six months.
