PPP leaders demand fresh polls

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Nov 16: The Balochistan council of Pakistan People’s Party has demanded free, fair and transparent elections in the country and transfer of power to elected representatives. The council met on Wednesday with Nawabzada Mir Lashkari Khan Raisani in the chair.

A resolution demanded that all cases against Ms Benazir Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Bismillah Khan Kakar and other party leaders be withdrawn and they should be allowed to take part in politics. It also demanded restoration of the 1973 Constitution.

The council expressed concern over the law and order situation, price hike and unemployment.

Another resolution deplored riggings in the local bodies’ elections. However, party’s performance in these elections in Balochistan was described as encouraging.

The killings of former diplomat and PPP leader Akbar Umrani, Abdul Saboor Kakar, and Sohrab Khan Chandio were condemned and the council demanded arrest of the culprits.
