KARACHI, Nov 16: Acute water shortage continues to persist in various parts of Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, Saddar and Shah Faisal towns, leaving no choice for residents of the affected localities but to either buy private tankers or consume sub-soil unhygienic water.
The hard-hit localities include Nazimabad No 3, North Nazimabad’s blocks A and P, North Karachi’s sectors 5-C/1, 5-C/2, 11-A, 11-B and 11-C, Kharadar, Mehmoodabad, Akhtar Colony, Clifton’s Block 2 and different localities of Shah Faisal Town.
Though the water shortage in the affected localities of Liaquatabad and North Nazimabad towns has been persisting for the last couple of days, the residents of localities belonging to Saddar and Shah Faisal towns complained that water shortage had become routine.
Accusing the KWSB officials of reducing water quota, the residents of affected parts of North Karachi and North Nazimabad claimed that a cut in their water quota had been made to divert the same to the water-deficit pockets of Orangi, Baldia and Surjani townships.
They demanded of the city Nazim and the KWSB managing director to restore their quota of water as they cannot afford to purchase private water tankers for a long period.
Residents of affected localities of Shah Faisal and Saddar towns complained that although acute water shortage had been persisting in the localities since long, the KWSB officials concerned have not yet taken measures to restore their supply despite a number of complaints had been lodged with them.
SEWAGE OVERFLOW: Filthy water gushing out from some choked gutters has accumulated near two housing complexes – Jasson and Ali apartments – in Clifton’s Block 7, causing hindrance to smooth flow of traffic, besides polluting the locality’s atmosphere.
Area residents complained that sewage coming out from choked gutters created unhygienic condition and had been damaging road where it was stagnant for the last couple of days.
