DHAKA: The Bangladesh government has asked law-enforcers to root out members of suicide squads of the banned Muslim outfit, the Jamaatul Mujahideen, Bangladesh, which is blamed for carrying out frequent bombings in the country.
They were also asked to ensure security of judges across the country at any cost.
The directives were issued at a marathon meeting of the state minister for home affairs, Lutfozzaman Babar, and the top bosses of law-enforcement and intelligence agencies.
To root out religious terrorists from the country, the home ministry has planned a joint operation, similar to that of the Army-led Operation Clean Heart, from next month, meeting sources said.
The police department has been asked to carry out an assessment study, identifying the most vulnerable areas where the joint forces of Army, Rapid Action Battalion, Bangladesh Rifles, police, Armed Police Battalion, Coastguard, Navy and the intelligence agencies will begin a massive operation.
Chaired by Babar, the meeting reviewed Monday’s bombing and killing of two judges by a member of the Jamaatul Mujahideen.
The meeting re-assessed the strength of JMB and discussed how to ferret out and arrest the bomb squads.
