England’s Kemp lifts CNS trophy

KARACHI, Nov 15: Third seed Jonathan Kemp of England beat former Pakistan Open champion and qualifier Amjad Khan to lift the 6th Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) International Squash title at Roshan Khan/Jahangir Khan Squash Complex on Tuesday. Brilliant Kemp kept Amjad under pressure with a series of nicks, drop shots and overhead smashes to win the tournament 11-8, 10-11(0-2), 11-5 and 11-2.

The Englishman received US$3,971 and the runner-up US$3,717. The tournament carried total prize money of US$25,000.

Both the players showed aggression in the first game and after battling for each point it was Kemp who won the game by 11-8.

In the next game Peshawar-born Amjad staged a comeback and won it 10-11 (0-2).

However, the left-handed Kemp changed gears in the next two games and hardly allowed Amjad any chance of making a match of it and won 11-5 and 11-2 to capture the title.—Agencies
