Classy India overwhelm Pakistan: Under-17 Sccer

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Nov 14: Four goals by Khangembamthoi Singh helped India thrash Pakistan 9-0 in the opening match of the AFC Under-17 soccer qualifiers at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi on Sunday.

According to information provided by PFF on Monday, Pakistan face a must-win situation against Tajikistan in the next match on Tuesday.

India gave no room to Pakistan as Singh opened the scoring in the 10th minute when he found the net beating defenders and Pakistani goalkeeper Zaid Arif.

Three minutes later, Mohammad Moazzam doubled the lead when he shot home from close range.

India surged 3-0 ahead when Malasawmdawngliana converted a penalty kick after Zaid brought down Singh in the box.

Singh scored two more quick goals in the 29th and 30th minutes to make it 5-0.

Pakistani coach Shamim Khan replaced Zaid by Muhammad Irfan but failed to yield positive results as Pakistan conceded two more before breather.

Singh scored his fourth in the 44th minute while Lalawmzuala made it 7-0 a minute later.

Yet there was more misery for the Pakistanis as Indians slotted home two more after re-start.

Mintu Boro slammed home the eighth in the 55th minute while Moazzam completed the tally in the 78th minute.

The third and final match of the Group will be played between India and Tajikistan on Nov 17.

The Group winners will join the hosts Singapore along with 14 qualifiers in the 16-team final round.
