PESHAWAR, Nov 14: The government has decided to issue ration cards to all survivors in the earthquake-affected areas to ensure continuous supply of foodstuff. The step will not only make the process of providing relief goods more transparent, but will also ensure that all deserving families receive necessary items till their rehabilitation.

The Pakistan Army, in collaboration with the civil administration and public representatives, including nazims and councillors, evolved the strategy to ensure uninterrupted supply of relief goods in the quake-affected areas of the province according to an ISPR press release issued here on Monday.

Union nazims and councillors have been included in the exercise as they have information about people and their problems. The victims in these areas as well as those living in tent villages will receive sufficient quantity of foodstuff for a certain period on production of ration cards.

As many as 152 volunteers have joined troops in relief and rehabilitation activities. The volunteers will assist army engineers in construction of shelters for the earthquake victims.

Army engineers have constructed 129 shelters made of corrugated galvanized iron (CGI) sheets in the worst affected areas of Garhi Habibullah, Battagram, Balakot and Shinkiari. Army engineers have received another 3,300 CGI sheets from GHQ and from an NGO. So far, 1,535 sheets have been issued, while 143 shelters area under construction in the area.
