KARACHI, Nov 14: The four young friends, who were killed in a road accident on Sunday night on Mai Kolachi Bypass, were laid to rest in the Mewa Shah Graveyard after their funeral prayers were offered in Kakri Ground, Lyari, on Monday.
Highly emotional scenes were witnessed when their coffins were taken out for Namaz-i-Janaza from their residences in Kharadar area in the afternoon. All the four victims lived in the same building.
The deceased — Kamran, Faisal, Farooq and Javed – along with two other friends – Fazal and Furqan — were returning from Boat Basin in a car (AGZ-407) when it was hit by a speeding oil tanker (LH-8702) on Mai Kolachi Bypass. Fazal and Furqan had sustained injuries in the accident and were rushed to the Civil Hospital before being shifted to Aga Khan Hospital.
It has been gathered that Faisal, who had returned from Saudi Arabia, had taken his five friends to a dinner at the Boat Basin food street. Family sources said his friends were also aspiring to settle aboard.
Three of the car’s occupants had reportedly died on the spot whereas the fourth one succumbed to his wounds at the Civil Hospital.
The errant driver of the oil tanker who had fled from the scene, could not be arrested till Monday night, nor could the vehicle’s owner be traced out. A police official said that the vehicle’s documents might have been taken away by the driver. Apart from the words ‘Rana Enterprise’ written on the tanker’s body, police have found no clue to the owner of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a statement issued on Monday expressed grief over the death of four young men in the accident.
The MQM Rabita Committee has demanded immediate arrest of the tanker’s driver.
On Monday, two persons died and three others were injured in separate road accidents in different parts of the city.
A rashly driven bus of route number 4-L killed a pedestrian and injured three others before ramming into some parked vehicles and hitting an electric pole at Regal Chowk in the morning.
Police identified the deceased as Mohammad Ali and two of the injured as Sahfeeq and Shahroz, who were taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment. Police arrested the errant bus driver, Bilal, and impounded the vehicle.
In the other accident, a young man died and his friend was injured when they fell from a speeding minibus at Gulbai on Monday. Police said Ehtashamul Haq, 25, and Haroon, 21, fell from the footboard of the minibus, apparently after losing balance, while the minibus was negotiating a sharp turn at high speed at Gulbai intersection.
They were taken to the Civil Hospital where Ehtasham was pronounced dead and Haroon was admitted.
