KARACHI, Nov 14: After a move by vice-chancellor, some of the members of senate and chairpersons of different departments and senior teachers of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology passed a resolution in favour of poet Jamiluddin Aali.

At the third foundation day ceremony of FUUAST held on Sunday, Vice-chancellor Dr Iqbal Mohsin had moved a resolution that the sitting deputy chairman of the university’s senate be nominated for the post again.

About six weeks are left for Mr Aali to complete his first tenure of three years as deputy chairman and under the university charter it is the Higher Education Commission which presents names to the President of Pakistan, the chairman of the university senate, to select one of them for the post.

Before the vice-chancellor’s move, president of Anjuman Taraqi-i-Urdu Aftab Ahmad Khan and a member of syndicate Syed Azfar Rizvi in their speeches lauded the services of the poet and demanded that he should be granted the post of deputy chair for life time.
