KARACHI: Rauf wants continuous relief to victims

KARACHI, Nov 14: Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui has said that there should be no disruption in relief and rehabilitation work in the earthquake-hit areas till all the affected people are rehabilitated. He stated this during his visits to the relief collection camps set up by the MQM’s Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation (KKF) at Lines Area, Gulberg, Teen Hatti and Liaquatabad.

The minister appreciated the spirit shown and efforts made by MQM and KKF volunteers in this regard.

He observed that KKF volunteers were working relentlessly in the devastated areas on the directive of the MQM Chief, Altaf Hussain, and performing their duties in field hospital, tent villages, etc., besides providing similar services in far off areas and in the most difficult terrains.

Mr Siddiqui appealed to people to donate warm clothing, blankets, food items and cash for survivors as five million people would require continued supplies of such items and cash aid for many more months.

PRAYER: An interfaith prayer session was held at one of the camps set up by the Church World Service (CWS)in the quake-hit areas. Rev. John L. McCullough, Bishop Samuel Azariah of Raiwind Diocese and Qazi Abdul Khamoosh, Chairman of Muslim-Christian Federation International prayed for the affected people, said a CWS press release issued here on Monday.

It pledged to continue relief and rehabilitation work in the areas till the services were required. It further stated that a CWS psycho-socio team had decided to focus on the issues being faced by women in the first phase of its activities and hoped that those relating to children could also be addressed.

The team is facing major problems in ensuring water supply and proper sewerage disposal in the relief operation areas.

According to the press release, “an incident at the camp occurred several days ago involved unaccompanied children. It was reported to the UN Protection Cluster Meeting and was taken up by the International Red Cross and the IRCRC.”—PPI
