SUKKUR, Nov 13: A seven-day Urs of Sufi saint and poet Hazrat Rohil Fakir started on Sunday in Kandri, Sukkur district. Thousands of devotees from different parts of Sindh and Punjab, especially belonging to the schedule cast, have arrived to attend the celebrations.
Despite the lapse of more than 350 years, five books of Rohil Fakir written in Persian Sindhi, Seraiki and Punjabi languages, have not been published.
The Urs of Rohil Fakir started on Sunday while Urs of Mohammad Hassan Mast will start on November 14, Urs of Soofi Rahim Bux on November 16, Urs of Darya Khan will start on November 17, Urs of Dur Mohammad Fakir will take place on November 18, and the Urs of famous Sindhi poet Darya Khan Fakir will start on November 19.
Hazrat Rohail Fakir was finance minister in the Mughal era. After becoming a follower of Shah Inayat, he resigned from the ministry, distributed his property among the people, and started his journey along with his family.
He was resident of Umerkot. Rohil Fakir’s Urs is also celebrated in Umerkot and in Jasalmir in India.
