KARACHI, Nov 13: The CNG Stations Owners Association has dispelled the impression that the government has allowed use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in vehicles and setting up of LPG stations.
Addressing a press conference at a local hotel on Saturday, chairman of the association Malik Khuda Bux said the actual position was that the government had formed a committee, comprising five federal ministers, to consider the matter.
He termed media publicity with regard to LPG stations ‘misleading’, saying that the ministry of petroleum had banned the use of LPG in vehicles through a notification in September 2002.
Expressing concerns over the use of LPG in vehicles instead of its supply to the backward areas, he claimed that the commodity was being sold at double the actual rates due to its black-marketing.
He urged President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to look into the matter and ensure supply of LPG to backward and quake-hit areas of the country which badly needed the commodity.—PPI
