KARACHI, Nov 12: An anti-terrorism court indicted on Saturday two alleged associates of underworld don Arshad Pappu in an extortion case. Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 put off the hearing of the case till Nov 14 after Mohammed Salim Baloch and Dawood Baloch denied the charges.
The judge ordered the special public prosecutor, Naimat Ali Randhawa, to produce prosecution witnesses on the next date of hearing.
According to prosecution, the two accused phoned Mohammed Nadim, a hardware shopkeeper at Shershah, and demanded Rs50,000 as protection money on behalf of gangland leader Arshad Pappu.
The alleged extortionists asked the shopkeeper to deliver the money to them at a place within the limits of Garden police. Mohammed Nadim, with his brother Mohammed Salim, reached the designated point where they handed over Rs10,000 to them.
It was alleged that while the shopkeeper and his brother were still negotiating with the alleged extortionist, some passersby reached the spot and caught the accused. The passers-by also beat up the two and later handed them over to a ranger patrol party.
The two alleged extortionists were brought to Shershah police where they were booked in the case and the money seized from them was made case property.
BAIL GRANTED: A woman, booked and arrested for murdering her husband three years ago, was granted bail by an additional district and sessions judge of district West.
