10,000 quilts for victims catch fire


SAHIWAL, Nov 11: As many as 10,000 quilts prepared for quake victims were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in the godown of the Harappa Textile Mills here on Friday.

Reports said the mills had kept the quilts in a godown adjoining to the spinning unit which also gutted in the fire.

Fire brigades from Chichawatni and Sahiwal controlled the fire after five hours.

Police are trying to ascertain the cause of the fire.

KILLED: Five people were killed and 13 others injured in separate road accidents here on Friday.

A car overturned near Chak 45-GD on the Sahiwal-Noorshah Road while saving a donkey-cart. Driver Shaukat Naeem and Amjad died on the spot while Ishaq, his wife Najma, daughters Asima, 6, and Faiza, 4, and Abbas and Anwar sustained injuries. The condition of Najma and Asima is reported to be serious in the DHQ Hospital.

In Thatha Purbaira village, Farzand Ali and Din Mohammad were killed and Allah Bakhsh, Manzoor, Iqbal, Abid, Qasim and Sajjad injured when a tractor-trolley overturned.

Haider Abbas was killed and Zahid injured when a speeding wagon hit their motorcycle on the Sahiwal-Burjewala Road.

On the Sahiwal-Arifwala Road, Yousaf was run over by a car. He was taken to hospital in serious injuries. — Correspondent
