Waseem cracks double century

LAHORE, Nov 10: Unbeaten double-century by opener Waseem Baig enabled Islamabad pile up 344 for six against Lahore Ravi in the National Inter-region Under-19 cricket championship at Lahore Country Club, Muridke on Thursday.

Waseem smashed 22 boundaries and two sixes off 268 balls. Kamran Hussain (56) gave good support with a half-century.

Medium-pacer Prince Abbas and Mohammad Imran shared nine wickets between them to help Sialkot skittle out Peshawar for a paltry 144 in their first innings at the Saga Ground, Sialkot.

By close of play, Sialkot due to fine batting by opener Muhammad Yasin 77 and Usman Mushtaq (batting 51) were 148 for two in 43 overs.

ISLAMABAD (1st innings): 344 for six, 83 overs (Mirza Waseem Baig 213 batting, Kamran Hussain 56; Khurram 4-55) vs Lahore Ravi.

PESHAWAR (1st innings): 144 in 37.1 overs (Shahid Iqbal 48; Prince Abbas 5-39, Mohammad Imran 4-45).

SIALKOT (1st innings): Muhammad Yasin 77, Usman Mushtaq batting 51).

Our Sports Reporter adds from Islamabad: Rawalpindi fought back against Lahore on Thursday on the opening day of their three-day PCB Under-19 cricket championship match at the Rawalpindi Stadium.

After being dismissed for only 107, the home side hit back to reduce Lahore to 38-4 in 12.1 overs before bad light brought play to a premature close.

Akhtar Ayub inflicted the damage on Lahore picking up three wickets in a fine bowling display.

Earlier Lahore paceman Asif Raza restricted the hosts with 4-26 as did Muhammad Shahzad and Shahzad Ali, who shared six wickets. Owais Zia, who scored 36, was the top run-getter.
