PESHAWAR, Nov 10: The city district government’s social welfare department is running and coordinating social welfare services for the quake-hit people by providing residential facilities to them and coordinating dietary and other supplies to victims hospitalized here.

According to the department, the total number of people in two rehabilitation centres is 267, including children and women. Out of them, 70 are patients and 193 their relatives.

The number of patients in major hospitals in Peshawar is between 32 and 35 during the previous week.

An official told journalists that six women MNAs and MPAs had visited the rehabilitation centres, appreciated arrangements there and handed over medicines to the managements.

He said that the NWFP chief minister had distributed clothes items one day before Eidul Fitr and provided special food on Eid day. They were also given around Rs4,500 as Eidee, donated by local philanthropists.

PLAN: District Nazim Haji Ghulam Ali on Wednesday said the district government would purchase five dust-sucking machines to keep the city clean.

The nazim said he had issued directives to the authorities concerned for purchase of the machines, which would operate at five different locations.

Mr Ali said air pollution due to dust and smoke had crossed dangerous level, causing damage to the health of the citizens.

The nazim claimed that he was fully alive to environmental, air pollution, and vowed to take measures for providing relief to the people.

He also said he was working on a mega project of constructing 15 underpasses in the city from the Ring Road to Hayatabad for removing traffic congestions.—Agencies
