LARKANA, Nov 10: The division bench of the Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit, on Thursday issued notices to the heads of five Larkana-based non-governmental organizations to appear before the court on November 24.
The division bench comprised Justice Mohammad Afzal Soomro and Justice Maqbool Baqar.
Dr Farooqur Rehman Soomro, a focal person for the Larkana HIV/Aids and a senior medical officer in the Larkana health department, through his advocate Faiz Mohammad Larik said in a petition that NGOs -— Community Development Netw-ork Forum (CDNF), Ghazi Social Welfare Association, Al-Fatah Social Welfare Association, Mehran Welfare Trust and Bright Educational Society — had created problems in Larkana regarding the issue of HIV/Aids by working separately with the patients and donor agencies without consent of the Aids Task Force.
The petitioner said that the representatives of local NGOs had sensitized the issue by giving fake reports to media.
He said that after witnessing the situation he had suggested to the Larkana district health officer to monitor NGOs working for prevention of Aids.
The then Larkana district nazim had asked the EDO Health in a letter to collect data of patients inflicted with the virus along with the names of organizations spreading fake data.
The letter had also been forwarded to the petitioner who in its response prepared a detailed report and asked the five NGOs not to provide any information about Aids to public and media without consulting him.
The petitioner said that the heads of five NGOs became furious and started campaigning to ruin his career and reputation.
The NGOs had started making false complaints to the Sindh health secretary and other officers to create obstacles for the petitioner.
The focal person said that the NGOs had pressurized him not to monitor their misdeeds and misappropriation.
He said that the heads of three NGOs -– CDNF, Ghazi and Al-Fatah — were government employees in education, livestock and Hesco. They regularly drew their pays and ran organizations.
The petitioner prayed to the court to direct NGOs not to put undue pressure on him by making false complaints against him.
PPP: Leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has demanded from the government to allow PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto to return to Pakistan.
He was speaking to party workers, elected nazims, naib nazims and councillors of the Awam Dost Panel from Larkana on Thursday.
The opposition leader said that the return of Ms Bhutto was need of the hour as the rulers had failed to save the country from external and internal challenges.
He said the government should close all fake cases registered against the PPP chairperson.
Mr Khuhro also demanded from the government to allow Nawaz Sharif to return to the country.
He said the popularity of PPP was increasing due to clean politics.
The opposition leader said the government had failed to send relief goods to earthquake affected areas.
He questioned the ability of the government by saying that it could not even clear the rubble of the ‘Margalla Towers’ then how could it clear the rubble in remote hilly areas.
