Section 144 in Muzaffarabad

MUZAFFARABAD, Nov 10: The Azad Kashmir administration has imposed Section 144 CrPC and banned all processions and public meetings in Muzaffarabad for two months.

A police spokesperson told Dawn on Thursday that the step had been taken to avert any law and order problem, particularly because of recent clashes between activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Jamaat-i-Islami.

The spokesperson warned that violators would be severely dealt with.

Meanwhile, the MQM resumed its relief operation here on Thursday, a day after winding it up alleging that its workers had been attacked by JI activists.

An MQM leader said that around 50 workers, doctors and paramedical volunteers had resumed their humanitarian work in the state capital.

Mr Nisar Panwar, who is federal parliamentary secretary for housing and works, said the establishment had assured them of providing full protection and had also deployed police contingents at their camp and field hospital.
