HYDERABAD: Demand to withdraw cases against ST activists

HYDERABAD, Nov 10: Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan MPA Abdul Rehman Rajput has accused an ethnic organization, which is also a coalition partner in federal and provincial governments, of unleashing inhuman atrocities against activists of the Sunni Tehrik.
He demanded that the president, prime minister, minister for interior, Sindh chief secretary and other authorities should take notice of murders of ST leaders and workers. He said the authorities should order withdrawal of false cases against ST activists.
He was speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Thursday. Party leaders Mohammad Khalid Qadri, Allama Qari Mohammad Ali Qadri and Khalid Hassan Attari were present. Mr Rajput said the issue of excesses against the Sunni Tehrik had been raised on the floor of the Sindh Assembly but the Sindh government had done nothing in this regard.
He said members of the National Assembly, Sahibzada Moulana Fazlul Karim, Sahibzada Dr Abul Khair Mohammad Zubair and Aitazaz Ahsan, had also raised the issue on the floor of National Assembly four months back.
He said the prime minister, the Pakistan Muslim League president and the National Assembly speaker had held out an assurance that no injustice would be committed against the Sunni Tehrik and the murderers would be brought to book. He said an assurance had also been given that a report would be called on the issue but nothing had happened.
The MPA alleged that eight activists of the Sunni Tehrik had been shot dead in Ramazan for taking part in relief activities for earthquake victims. Instead of rounding up terrorists, he regretted, false cases had been registered against ST workers in Karachi and Hyderabad.
He demanded that protection should be provided to ST chief Maulana Mohammad Abbas Qadri and other leaders, the murderers should be arrested and false cases against ST and workers should be withdrawn.
Mr Rajput warned that no excesses against the Tehrik would be tolerated and if the federal government failed to take notice of the excesses, a protest movement would be launched throughout the country.
