KARACHI: Inter board increases fees by 25 per cent

KARACHI, Nov 10: The Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, has increased the HSC examination, enrolment and registration fees for regular and external candidates by 25 per cent, which would be applicable in the case of HSC supplementary examinations’ candidates as well.

According to senior BIEK officials the upward revision in the fee schedule, which would be considered effective from July 1, 2005, would help meet additional expenditures taking place due to the 100 per cent increase in the invigilators’ remuneration as directed by the controlling authority of the board, the Sindh governor, a 15 per cent enhancement in the existing salaries of the employees as announced by the federal government and other miscellaneous expenditures.

The increases, ranging from Rs90 to Rs180, have been approved by the controlling authority of the board as well, said an official.

In the meantime, the BIEK controller of examination on Thursday announced that the HSC supplementary examinations, 2005, for college and private students would commence on Jan 10.

He said that the candidates would have to make payments in line with the new fee structures. Replying to a question, the controller said that his office was provided with the official and approved notification related to new fees schedule from the BIE’s secretary office only on Thursday, following which the examination and fee payments schedules were finalized without wasting any time.

He further said that what he had been given to understand by the authorities was that payment to the invigilators under the new rates, ie Rs300 instead of Rs150, would be effective from the HSC annual examination, 2005.

However, another official commented that the new expenditures could be met out only once the income was generated, which was possible only after the conduct of supplementary examinations.

The existing and new fee rates are as follows:

Enrolment fee: (college students)-Rs220/270, Registration fee (Private candidates) Rs500/625.

Examination fees: HSC Part I or II (pre-medical/pre-engineering/science general/Humanities and Commerce groups, involving practical)-Rs380/475, part I or II Commerce/Humanities (not involving practical)-Rs360/450.

HSC Part I and II (combined or part II with any failed paper of part-I or failure appearing in part-I and II papers) pre-medical/pre-engineering/science general/Humanities and Commerce groups (involving practical) - Rs720/900, combined or part II with any failed paper of part-I or failure appearing in Part-I and II papers of Commerce or Humanities group (not involving practical-Rs680/850.

Home Economics group: HSC part-I only-Rs380/475, part-II only-Rs415/520, part I and II-Rs755/850. Diploma in Physical Education- Rs350/440.

CT/PTC Examination: Failure of CT/PTC (Theory only)-Rs355/445, Failure of CT/PTC (Model Lesson only)-Rs280/350, Failure of CT/PTC (appearing in both Theory and Model lesson)-Rs455/570.

Scrutiny fee: Rs100/125.

The examination forms for the supplementary examinations 2005 from regular and private students will be received from Nov 14 to Dec 1. Forms with a late fee of Rs100, Rs300 and Rs1,000 however could be submitted by the regular candidates up to Dec 10, Dec 17 and Dec 24 respectively, and by the private candidates up to Dec 10, Dec 17 and Dec 27 respectively.

Forms from the regular students will be accepted through colleges, while from the private students through banks. No examination form shall be accepted after the expiry of dates, added BIE notification.
