Engg sector share in exports up


ISLAMABAD, Nov 10: The share of engineering sector in total export of the country had risen to five per cent in the last financial year as compared to three per cent in the previous year.

Imtiaz Ali Rastgar, CEO Engineering Development Board (EDB), in a briefing to Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives Jehangir Khan Tareen here on Thursday said that engineering goods worth $713 million had been exported during the last fiscal against $394 million in the previous year.

He apprised the minister that the export of optical, photography, cinematography and surgical equipment fetched $184.87 million, furniture and fittings $175.46 million, articles of iron and steel $83.38 million, electrical machinery equipments and parts $82.15 million, and boilers and machinery $60.39 million.

The others in line were tools, implements, cutlery, parts $41.55 million, vehicles other than railway rolling stock $28.84 million, aluminium and articles $14.99 million, iron and steel $11.18 million, copper and articles $8.38 million, the CEO added.

He said that the United States was on top among 10 major importing countries of these goods from Pakistan with $147.92 million followed by Afghanistan with $93.05 million, the United Kingdom with $61.29 million and Dubai with $49.98 million.—APP
