HYDERABAD, Nov 9: Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement’s Sindh chapter general-secretary Qamar Bhatti has alleged that five of eight parties affiliated with Ponm are of the considered opinion that Sindh National Front chief Mumtaz Bhutto has been given the task of forging a new alliance of nationalist parties to undermine Ponm.

Mr Bhatti, who is also the chairman of the Jeay Sindh Qaum Parast Party, told a news conference at the Qaum Parast House here on Wednesday that action would be taken against Ponm affiliates which joined the new alliance.

He announced that a meeting of the Sindh chapter of Ponm would be held on Dec 1.

Mr Bhatti claimed that parties and individuals opposed to the alliance being forged by Mr Bhutto included Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, Jeay Sindh Qaum Parast Party, Jeay Sindh Mahaz-Z, Sindh Hari Committee, Sindh Sagar Party and the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, Sindh.

He said it was clearly mentioned in the Ponm constitution that its affiliates could not join any other alliance. He said that in view of this fact, explanation would be called from parties which attended the meeting convened by Mr Bhutto.

He further said Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah would also be questioned why he had contested the local body elections in cooperation with a government party.

Answering a question, Mr Bhatti said he had been invited to Wednesday’s meeting convened by the SNF but he had turned the invitation down.
