India women set for Lord’s debut

LONDON, Nov 8: The India women’s cricket team is set to play its first match at Lord’s when they take on England in a One-day International fixture at the ‘home of cricket’ next year.

The match, England’s first at the London venue for five years, is due to take place on Aug 14 and ground owners MCC said admission to a game scheduled during the British school summer holidays would be free.

“MCC is delighted to be hosting this women’s One-day International at Lord’s,” said club president Robin Marlar. “It should be an excellent contest between England, who beat Australia in their Test series earlier this year, and India — the runner’s-up in the World Cup,” the former Sussex captain added.

To help prepare for the match at Lord’s, India will play an MCC women’s team at Uppingham School, near Leicester, central England, on Aug 3.—AFP
