Horse-racing: Makina fancied to land Eid Milan Cup

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Nov 8: Three-year-old filly, Makina, is fancied to capture Eid Milan Cup in the Winter Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Wednesday. She is drawn in a pack of eight contestants in the sixth race of afternoon to be run over a distance of a mile.

Owned by M. R. Hussain, the filly already had landed Independence Day Cup. Since then, the filly has not make her presence felt. She was to appear in the Oct 2 meeting but was fractious at the gate and fell and withdrawn before the start.

Reports however, suggests that she was back to her best and stand fair chance of adding another cup to her tally.

Makina is likely to be challenged by four-year-old colt, Al Faris and bay colt, King Of Sanghar.

The Eid Milan Cup will be preceded by Fantastic Stakes Cup which had a field 13 aspirants.

Two-year-old filly, Bul Bul, owned by Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara is fancied to clinch the prized event. Moj-e-Arab and Zidane, both two-year-old colts, should settle for the places.

A card of nine races including the two cups, have been chalked out for the day.

The first race of the programme begins at 12.30pm.
