SC adjourns Sonia Naz case till 14th


ISLAMABAD, Nov 8: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan on Tuesday adjourned hearing in Sonia Naz case for Nov 14 on the written request of advocate general Punjab.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice M. Javed Buttar and Justice Tassadaq Hussain Gillani, adjourned hearing of the case after Attorney General of Pakistan Mukhdoom Ali Khan argued that the investigation report was not satisfactory.

The advocate general Punjab submitted a written application seeking some more time from the apex court. A committee comprising of three senior officers of the Punjab police was constituted in accordance with orders passed by the court to investigate the case.

Zafar Ali Shah advocate appeared before the court on behalf of Sonia Naz. Rai Ahmed Nawaz Kharl advocate appeared before the court as counsel of accused Khalid Abdullah and Jamshed Chishti. Sonia Naz also remained present in the court room during the proceedings of the case.

Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta advocate had filed an application to the apex court in the Sonia Naz case. The chief justice took suo- moto notice on the application.

Sonia Naz was allegedly kidnapped and raped by police officers in Faisalabad. She filed a petition in the Supreme Court for the registration of FIR under the Hadood Laws as well as under the relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code for kidnapping, rape, attempt to rape and wrongful confinement etc.

The petition was filed by Sonia Naz in the Supreme Court through her counsel, Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta, for issuing directive to the concerned authorities for registration of FIR as reported to the Police in written by the petitioner.—APP
