India, US to discuss terror financing

NEW DELHI, Nov 8: Finance ministers of India and the United States will discuss ways on Wednesday to prevent money laundering and financing of terror, the Indian finance ministry said on Tuesday.

US Treasury Secretary John Snow would be leading a delegation, on an invitation of Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, to hold Indo-US Financial and Economic Forum here on Wednesday.

The two are ‘expected to discuss wide-ranging issues, including global economic issues eg growth trends and risks and emerging market economies, strengthening Indian capital markets, prevention of money laundering and financing of terror, currency security, insurance and pension sector issues and infrastructure development in the country’, the finance ministry said.

Both sides will also discuss progress at the Doha round and mutual cooperation in reaching a beneficial multilateral trading system.

In capital markets, they will discuss strengthening of supervision and surveillance mechanism and the US experience, development of bond market, bond insurance and securitized debt market. Similarly, both sides will also exchange views on sharing of experience of pension reforms and strengthening regulatory systems of pension regulator.
