Pakistan youth team named for AFC Cup

LAHORE, Nov 7: Pakistan Football Federation (PPF) on Monday announced the 18-member youth squad to compete in the AFC Youth championship qualifiers (Group-E) to be played at Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

A spokesman of the PFF said that the team was picked from the thirty camp trainees following performance based trials held recently.

Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar Rafiq has been named as manager. Bahrain’s Jassim Mohammed Abbas, or Khudair Abdulnabi Shamtoot will act as chief coach.

The top team of Dushanbe tourney will enter next year’s finals whose venue is yet to be decided.

The top-four finishers of AFC Youth Championship 2006 will advance to the 16th FIFA World Youth Championship 2007 at Canada.

Pakistani will take on Uzbekistan on Nov 23 and Tajikistan on Nov 25. The squad will leave for Tajikistan via Afghainstan on Nov 17.

DEFENDERS: Naqeeb Ullah (NWFP),Muhammad Ahmed (Wohaib) Shehbaz (Army), Muhammad Haji, Zubair Moazam (Punjab),

MIDFIELDERS: Nadeem Abbas (Punjab), Awais Shinwari (FATA), Jadeed Khan, Waqas Ali, Asghar Abbas (Balochistan), Khalid Munir, Jaffar (Army)

STRIKERS: Muhammad Ishtiaq (Sindh),Imran Hashmi (Balochistan).
