KARACHI: 5 killed in Karachi road accidents

KARACHI, Nov 6: Five persons were killed in separate road accidents in the last 72 hours in different parts of the city. Traffic on the main Korangi Road remained suspended for several hours on Saturday following a road accident which claimed the life of a young motorcyclist. Angry youths set a UTS bus on fire and pelted stones on the passing vehicles.

A day earlier, a similar accident occurred at the same spot in which another motorcyclist was killed.

Police said that Faraz, 25, was crushed to death by a UTS bus near the Chiniot Hospital.

The victim died on the spot. Following the incident youths set the bus on fire. They also pelted stones at the passing vehicles resulting in the blockade of the road. Police reached the spot and resorted to teargas shelling.

Earlier, on Friday, 15-year-old Saqib died when a speeding vehicle knocked him down at the main Korangi Road.

On Eid day, three persons were killed in a road accident near Sakran when they were heading to the shrine of Shah Noorani.

Police said that Rana Ahmed, 60, Sohail, 17 and Rab Nawaz, 16 were heading to the shrine on their motorcycle when a speeding truck knocked them down near Sakran.

A woman identified as Jamal Khatoon, 30, died when a bus of route (7-C) overturned in the Site area. Several passengers were injured in the accident.
