KARACHI: Altaf asks JI, other parties to join hands in relief work

KARACHI, Nov 6: Chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain has said that youths of Jamaat-i-Islami and other parties should join hands with the MQM in relief activities to promote national unity and spirit of service to humanity over and above ideological differences.
Expressing his gratitude to the JI MNA Samia Rahila Qazi, and PML leader and federal minister Mohammad Ali Durrani, for visiting an MQM field hospital in Muzaffarabad, Mr Hussain appreciated their positive views with regard to the rehabilitation work in the quake-hit areas.
“I pay tributes to Samia Qazi for her positive and bold views and expect that other JI leaders would have the same approach and they would launch a joint struggle with the MQM for the rehabilitation and resettlement of quake victims.”
Ms Qazi and Mr Durrani, during their visit to the hospital, had called for joint efforts by all parties, including the JI, MQM and PML, to mitigate the sufferings of calamity-hit people in this tragic hour.
EID GIFTS: MQM leaders distributed Eid gifts among survivors of the October 8 earthquake in various areas of northern Pakistan, APP adds.
They visited tent villages and field hospitals established by the MQM after offering Eid prayers.
According to the statements issued here on Sunday, In-charge of the MQM Coordination Committees Anwer Alam, along with MNAs, MPAs and other party leaders, visited different quake-hit areas and celebrated Eidul Fitr with survivors. They distributed Eid gifts among children on behalf of the party chief, Altaf Hussain.
Deputy Convener of the Coordination Committee Dr Farooq Sattar, Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Khan Ghauri and other party leaders offered Eidul Fitr prayers at the Police Lines ground in Muzaffarabad.
They also visited Azad Kashmir President Sardar Mohammad Anwer and exchanged Eid greetings with him.
The MQM leaders visited a graveyard and offered fateha for those perished in the massive earthquake.
EID GREETINGS: MQM chief Altaf Hussain exchanged Eid greetings with various prominent personalities, according to a statement received here on Sunday from the party’s international secretariat.
Mr Hussain telephonically talked to Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan, NWFP Governor Commander Khaleel Ahmed, NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim and Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party-Parliamentarians Makhdoom Amin Fahim to greet them on Eidul Fitr.
In his conversation with Sardar Sikandar Hayat and Commander Khaleel Ahmed, Mr Hussain expressed his grief over the loss of thousands of lives in the massive earthquake that hit Azad Kahsmir and NWFP on October 8.
Expressing his sympathies with the affected families, he observed that the calamity had wreaked havoc in the northern parts of Pakistan. He said he, on behalf of his party, offered all sorts of help, assistance and support to survivors. He said that the MQM had resolved to do everything possible for the rehabilitation of survivors and reconstruction of the devastated areas.
Sardar Sikandar Hayat and Commander Khalil thanked Mr Hussain’s gestures and acknowledged the services being rendered by the MQM in this critical hour, the statements said.
CONDOLENCE: Mr Altaf Hussain has expressed grief and shock over the loss of precious lives in a boat tragedy in Keti Bundar.
In a condolence message, he expressed sympathy with the bereaved families.
