Gas pipeline repair work continues

Published November 3, 2005

SUKKUR, Nov 2: Gas supply to the Guddu Thermal Power Station and adjoining areas, through the main lifeline which had burst on Tuesday night, could not be restored till Wednesday evening.

However, an alternative arrangement was made to provide gas to the power station from Sui and Zam Zam gas fields.

A team sent by the Sui Northern Gas Company is engaged in repairing the 16-inch diameter pipeline which burst with a loud explosion.

According to company sources, the explosion was an act of sabotage, but police sources insisted that the old pipeline had burst due to high pressure of gas.

Meanwhile, Guddu Barrage remained closed to traffic and a heavy contingent of police and rangers guarded its both ends.
