Bowling is doing my talking, says Yasir
RAWALPINDI, Nov 2: Yasir Arafat, who took nine for 76 in the three-day match against England on Wednesday, said that he was letting his bowling do the talking for him.
“My performance is my message to the selectors,” he told Dawn after picking up remarkable figures in his first match of the season.
Of his nine victims seven were clean bowled and he asked what else was he expected to do.
“In the camp for fast bowlers, I am treated as an all-rounder and if I am good in batting that should not be treated as a negative point,” said the Rawalpindi boy who has just returned after playing for Scotland in county cricket.
Yasir, who has been declared the best player of the year twice at home, also dismissed the notion that he lacked bowling speed. “This is wrong, I bowl at a top speed of 88mph, you can use the gun to measure it.”
Yasir captured four wickets in the first innings and five in the second but his Patron’s XI side could not cash in on his good work and slumped to a 52-run defeat at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Chairman of selectors Wasim Bari conceded that Yasir had improved considerably especially after playing county cricket and said he would definitely be given a chance but did not say when.
Surprisingly, despite his fine performance in the Rawalpindi match, Yasir was omitted from the Pakistan ‘A’ squad which is to take on England in the second warm-up game in Lahore from Sunday.
