Regional players being ignored, claims official

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Nov 2: Dera Ghazi Khan District Cricket Association (DGKDCA) secretary,

Zafar Iqbal Khan, has slammed Multan Region’s team coach Ali Zia for ignoring the selected players of the region and including players from out of the region for the ongoing Quaid-i-Azam Trophy.

In a press statement, Zafar said that Aamir Ata as wicket-keeper did an excellent job in the previous two matches taking 10 catches but Ali Zia ignored him and selected Adnan Akmal, the younger brother of Pakistan wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal, from Lahore to play as wicket-keeper.

He said that fact was that a reserve wicket-keeper had also been selected in the 20 member squad announced for the Multan region team, but both local wicket-keepers were ignored to adjust an out of region player.

He said that according to the PCB rules no guest player was allowed to play for any region except of Quetta, Hyderabad and Abbotabad.

When contacted, a PCB spokesman said that the coach of the region with the consent of the chief selector of that region could select any player.
