Rehabilitation: PM reviews ministries’ plans
ISLAMABAD, Nov 2: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has appreciated the ministry of science and technology for working jointly with Unicef, UNDP and other international relief agencies for setting up filtration plants to provide clean drinking water to the inhabitants of quake affected areas.
The prime minister was talking to federal ministers Nouraiz Shakoor, Ghulam Sarwar Khan and Wasi Zafar who held separate meetings with him at Prime Minister’s House on Wednesday and discussed about the present and future programmes of their ministries regarding relief and reconstruction.
In his meeting with the minister for science and technology, the prime minister discussed plans for provision of safe drinking water in the quake affected areas.
He was told that the ministry had completed a survey of drinking water in the earthquake affected areas and had submitted its report about water quality there.
The ministry is working with Unicef, UNDP and other foreign agencies for the restoration of the supply of clean drinking water in these areas.
In his meeting with Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Wasi Zafar, the prime minister discussed the upcoming legislation agenda for the next meeting of the parliament.
He directed the minister to make access to justice simple and speedy. He said justice had to be delivered in a timely manner.
The prime minister also inquired about the implementation status of the ‘Access to Justice’ programme.
Mr Aziz said laws needed to be reviewed and amended constantly to make these people friendly.
He appreciated the minister for setting up a tented village for 1,000 people at Chamb.
The law minister apprised the prime minister of his ministry’s efforts for improving access to justice and transforming the judicial system to make it more efficient.
Similarly, Federal Minister for Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Ghulam Sarwar Khan highlighted various activities undertaken by his ministry for the rehabilitation of earthquake affected areas.
