Mianwali nazim opposes underpass

Published November 3, 2005

MIANWALI, Nov 2: District Nazim Obaidullah Shadikhel has opposed the construction of an underpass at Kutchery Road and called it sheer wastage of public funds.

During his visit to the site, the nazim said the structure, after its completion, would add to the problems faced by the people.

However, District Coordination Officer Zulfiqar Ali Toor and the building department officers tried to justify the project on the occasion.

The nazim also ordered the officials concerned to stop the construction of footpaths along Ballokhel Road and said that without completing sewerage projects it would be just wastage of funds.

Meanwhile, during his visit to the District Headquarters Hospital, the nazim took a serious notice of the lack of patients’ care and the cleanliness in the wards.

Walls of the wards were found dirty and heaps of garbage were seen dumped in open by the inspection team led by the nazim. The patients complained that neither they were being treated properly nor any medicines were being given to them.

The nazim told the hospital’s medical superintendent to improve cleanliness in the wards, besides patients’ care.

PICKED UP: Intelligence agencies’ officials have picked up two persons from the District Headquarters Hospital.

Reports said on a tip-off the agencies’ officials in plain clothes held to two bearded persons with a bag from the hospital lawn. The officials took the suspects to some unknown place, while their third companion managed to escape.

City SHO and other police officers confirmed that the suspects were picked up, however, they claimed to be unaware of the reasons for the action.

Sources say the suspects might have come to the city for carrying out some terrorist activity.
