FAISALABAD, Nov 2: A tug of war is going on between the City District Government and the town administrations to get the assets, especially properties of their respective areas, for the smooth running of affairs.
The legal circles claimed that according to rules, the assets like vacant offices, residences and other buildings in the limits of towns, should be given to the town administration concerned so that they could be utilized according to recommendations of the elected house as well as demands of the people.
Faisalabad district, after the award of status of city district, has been divided into eight towns — Lyallpur, Jinnah, Iqbal, Madina, Samundri, Tandlianwala, Chak Jhumra and Jaranwala. Previously the properties and assets were in the control of the Tehsil Municipal Administrations. The four rural tehsils — Samundri, Tandlianwala, Chak Jhumra and Jaranwala — have no problem as their status remained unchanged while urban areas of Lyallpur, Jinnah, Iqbal, Madina towns which have been created after dissolving two TMAs, City and Saddar, have been facing problems of distribution of assets.
Town nazims have formally communicated to the DCO and district nazim to look into the matter and hand over the properties of their respective areas in their control. But the matter is still in doldrums creating innumerable problems in the working of the towns.
Sources said the nazims of urban towns had planned to erect parking plazas, community centres and other public welfare projects in the buildings of their respective areas but have become helpless due to dispute of the control.
