ISLAMABAD, Nov 2: A parliamentary committee set up by National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain to provide relief to earthquake victims is yet to work out a plan to distribute relief goods.

It is learnt that the MNA, who is coordinator of the committee, postponed distribution of goods till her return from her hometown on Monday.

A large number of quake-affected people queued up outside the committee’s relief goods’ room on Wednesday but they were disappointed to know that people responsible for distribution of the goods were not there.

Both the opposition and treasury members had decided to donate their one month’s salary and that amount raised totalled Rs11 million, according to a member of the committee.

The committee held a few meetings but failed to workout a relief programme.

The government has arranged a number of helicopter trips for members of the committee to enable them to assess the situation and report to the committee.

The National Assembly speaker had set up the 13-member committee after the Oct 8 earthquake and its strength was later raised to 20.

Meanwhile, the ruling PML’s relief efforts are reported to be facing serious problems because of lack of sufficient number of volunteers and a huge quantity of relief material collected by the party was lying at a flour mills owned by a member of the ruling party.
