KARACHI, Nov 2: The city government has initiated planning to construct Southern Bypass to link the National Highway to the city and ease traffic pressure by diverting the National Highway bound heavy traffic to the new bypass.

This was stated by City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal while addressing a consultative meeting of IT experts and other officials at his office on Wednesday.

He said that after the completion of Southern Bypass project, the effectiveness of Northern Bypass and Lyari Expressway would also be enhanced.

Mustafa Kamal said that the present city government initiated work on various vital projects in short span of time after coming into power. He said that he wanted that the common man should witness this change through improvement in his own life and surroundings.

The nazim said that he wanted to work in collaboration with towns, union councils and minority communities. He asked that IT experts to come ahead and guide the city government how to introduce positive changes into the lives of people. He said that he fully believed that these changes could be made with the help of information technology.

He apprised the experts about various projects of the city government and problems faced by it and sought their views.

Meanwhile, Mustafa Kamal handed over computers on behalf of the city government to various town nazims so that they could initiate projects of recording complaints of the citizens and introduce toll-free numbers in this regard.

Saddar Town Nazim Muhammad Dilawar, Lyari Town Nazim Malik Muhammad Fayyaz and Keamari Town Nazim Humayun Khan, who were present on the occasion, received computers and accessories from the city nazim for their respective towns.

Mr Kamal said that for introducing the project of toll-free complaint telephone numbers, the information technology department of the city government had initiated training programmes in various towns, while computers and accessories were also being provided to them. He said that after the completion of training and installation of computers, this project would be kicked off.

He said that it would be the first system of its kind in the country, on which the citizens could lodge their complaints, saving both time and money. He said that their complaints would be automatically sent to the concerned department in respective towns and union councils. He said the toll-free project would greatly help solving problems of citizens. He hoped that project would be a big success.

ANTI-MALARIA DRIVE: The city nazim initiated anti-Malaria drive in Saddar Town on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.

He said that all other towns would also begin this programme and spray anti-mosquito drugs in their respective areas. He expressed hope that Karachi would be made a clean and pollution-free city.

He said that the anti-malaria drive was being re-started in the city after 25 years. He asked that town and union council nazims to ensure that every street of their area was being sprayed during the drive.—APP/PPI
