Pak Gym dethroned

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 1: Sui Gas CC, propelled by excellent knocks from Ashraf Ali and Mohammad Zafar, dethroned reigning champions Pak Gymkhana to reach the final of the 20th Karachi Gymkhana Ramazan Cricket Festival on Tuesday.

Sui Gas cantered to a comfortable 60-run victory in the second semifinal after piling up 212 for five in their quota of 25 overs. The foundation of their competitive total was laid down by the superb opening partnership of 158 between Ashraf and Zafar.

Ashraf, the Man-of-the-Match, plundered six fours and four sixes in making 87 off only 65 deliveries. Zafar struck 59 off 48 balls with the aid of five boundaries and two sixes.

Ghulam Ali then hammered a 44-ball 65, including five fours and two sixes, but Pak Gymkhana never really threatened to get anywhere near the target and were eventually bowled out for 152 in the 20th over.

Sui Gas face Cantt Sports CC in Wednesday’s final.

Summarised scores:

SUI GAS CC 212-5 in 25 overs (Ashraf Ali 87, Mohammad Zafar 59, Aminur Rahman 21, Wajid Ali 21 not out; Anis Shaikh 2-30); PAK GYMKHANA 152 in 19.4 overs (Ghulam Ali 65, Fawad Alam 24; Haris Ayaz 3-26, Irfanullah 2-27).

Final: Cantt Sports CC v Sui Gas CC on Wednesday.
