Probe urged into university affairs

KHAIRPUR, Nov 1: Former District Nazim Nafisa Shah has expressed grave concern over the deplorable condition in Shah Latif University and appealed to the Sindh governor to take notice of the situation which is affecting the academic atmosphere due to vindictive activities.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, she demanded that an inquiry commission to look into reports of threats being received by the director finance of the Shah Abdul Latif University who has refused to clear illegal vouchers.

She said that a junior employee of the university had been given more than two assignments without any justification and he had also bypassed other officers in respect of promotion because he was related to a ruling coalition party leader.

She said that due to all these happenings, the academic atmosphere of the university is suffering.

MNA: Former MNA and Pir of Ranipur, Syed Abdul Qadir Shah Jilani, has said local body elections were engineered and the people have rejected its results.

He said that political parties including the PPP have also refused to accept the outcome.

Addressing a gathering of party workers in Faiz Gunj on Tuesday, he said the voters were held hostages inside their houses.

He said that police arrested women, voters and workers of the government-backed candidates were allowed to vote at their will.

He added that people would prove their loyalties by voting the PPP to power in the next general elections provided the elections are held in a fair manner.

ACCIDENT: A constable died and four police officials were injured when a passenger bus rammed into a police mobile here on Monday night.

According to details, a passenger bus (TM-3125) which was on its way to Karachi from Dera Ghazi Khan hit a police mobile of the investigation wingm, Khairpur, on the National Highway near Bitto Chandio late on Monday night in which five police officials got injured.

The injured included SIP Zaheer Ahmed Mahesar, driver Liaquat Ali Gopang, PC Nazar Hussian Mangrio, Mumtaz Ujjan and Illahi Bux Ujjan who were admitted to the Civil Hospital, Khairpur.

Nazar Hussain Mangrio, however, died while he was being shifted to a Sukkur hospital in a critical condition. Illahi Bux Ujjan and Liaquat Ali Gopang were shifted to Nawabshah and SIP Zaheer Ahmed Mahesar was rushed to Sukkur for further treatment on Tuesday. The Tando Masti Khan police have impounded the bus. However, the driver of the bus fled.

SECURITY: The DPO Khairpur1, Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh, and SP investigation, Javed Ahmed Jiskani, discussed security arrangements for Eid-ul-Fitr at a meeting held here on Tuesday.

It was decided that police force would be deployed at each Eidgah specially in Khairpur city including the Imambargah on the National Highway, Dabbar-Bhurgari Eidgah and the Jamia Masjid city.

It was also decided that all TPOs, DSPs and SHOs would be patrolling in their respective areas during Eid prayers.
